TREATMENT OF TRAUMATICALLY INDUCED TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT DISORDERS, MYOFASCIAL PAIN AND THE RELATED POST TRAUMATIC HEADACHES.
This web site is devoted to the evaluation and treatment of traumatic temporomandibular joint injuries (TMJ), myofascial pain and the related post-traumatic headaches. By far, the leading cause of temporomandibular joint disorders (properly called TMD) is direct trauma to the head, neck, face, and jaws, and whiplash injuries from motor vehicle accidents (MVA’s).
These injuries produce a variety of symptoms that often confuse doctors due to a lack of understanding of the anatomic and physiologic complexity of the injury. For instance, this condition may easily be confused with migraine (vascular) or tension type headaches, or an ear infection. Additionally, fatigue and anxiety play a role in perpetuating the cycle of pain surrounding TMDs. Finally, undiagnosed referred pain can further cloud the picture. This site hopes to shed light on the proper evaluation and treatment of this often misdiagnosed and under-diagnosed condition
